Using the Library Catalog

Logging In (PIN) | "My Account" | Search Basics
Holds (requesting books) | Renewals | Inter-Library Loans

On this page, we have provided some general information about our library catalog to help you with using the system. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please contact Library staff at the circulation desk. If you are using the catalog remotely (outside the library), you may e-mail Paul McCann, or call 734-426-4477 during regular Library hours.

I don't need help at this time, take me to the library catalog now (link opens in new window). . .

Logging In:

  • If you have never changed your personal identification number (PIN) in iBistro it is "changeme". For your confidentiality, please change your PIN as soon as possible.
  • PINs in iBistro can only be composed of alpha and numeric characters; no spaces or special characters (@,$,), ect...)
  • PINs can be up to 10 characters long, it is recommended that PINs be at least 4 characters long for security reasons.
  • PINs are not case-sensitive.
  • If you have forgotten your PIN, please come to the Library in person and with proper identification (valid driver's license or state ID). For security reasons, your PINS cannot be given over the phone.

"My Account":

  • In "My Account", information about current library transactions can be viewed, a personal identification number (PIN) can be changed, the address the library has on file for you can be changed, or checked-out materials can be renewed.
  • Every authorized library user has a user record, which identifies the user and contains information about the user's circulation activity. The e-library references a user record based on the entered User ID. Each user record also contains a personal identification number (PIN) which ensures that library activity is confidential.
  • If you haven't already logged in, you may be prompted to log in to the e-library when you attempt to change information in My Account. This login is only valid for the current transaction.
  • Additional help using "My Account" (link opens in new window) . . .

Inter-Library Loans:
Library patrons should work with Library staff for Inter-Library Loan requests, for assistance on how to obtain access to materials from other libraries. The Dexter District Library is a member of The Library Network (link opens in new window), a consortium of over 70 member library systems throughout the Southeast Michigan area. The Dexter District Library encourages patrons to utilize Inter-Library Loan resources available through this membership.

The Dexter District Library provides many avenues for requesting materials from other libraries. Some of these services are free of charge while other methods incur fees to the Library. On an annual basis, the Library provides the first $10.00 of fee-based ILL service to an individual patron free of charge. If a patron continues to use fee-based ILL service beyond the subsidized amount, each individual patron will be responsible for the borrowing costs assessed by other libraries to the Dexter District Library, postage and handling charges and all other associated fees such as copying charges.
